The Removal of Confusion (Kashif al-Ilbas) is a compilation of insights from the Muslim Sufi tradition concerning the path to achieving experiential knowledge of Allah. It represents the first French translation of this significant text from the Tijaniyya, one of the most dynamic yet understudied Sufi orders globally.

Founded by Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani in the Maghreb in the late eighteenth century, this Sufi order has spread throughout sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. The Kashif al-Ilbas, a work that played a role in disseminating the Tijaniyya in twentieth-century West Africa, illustrates the fruitful dialogue between Sufi traditions and the ongoing relevance of experiential knowledge of Allah through the Sufi path.

The author, Shaykh al-Islam Ibrahim Niasse (died in 1975 in Senegal), stands as one of the most effective promoters of Islam and Sufism in the modern world. Perhaps a hundred million Muslims across Sudan and beyond are affiliated with the Tijaniyya, and sometimes Islam itself, due to the tireless efforts of Shaykh Ibrahim, known to his disciples as Sahib al-Fayda and Ghawth al-Zaman. Shaykh Ibrahim’s scholarly achievements and Islamic activism have made him one of the most prominent Muslim figures of the twentieth century.”
